“Drifting Yet Home” is a 100-word memoir, reflecting on Jane’s experience of having lived her life in multiple places.
When I first saw René Magritte’s floating rock castle, suspended between sky and sea, something inside me stirred. When I look back at all the places I’ve lived, Hong Kong, Singapore, and the United States, each seems like one level of a great structure that includes but transcends them all.
Staring at that drifting fortress, I realize my own roots hover too – never settling, always shifting. For years, I wondered which nationality defines me, where I truly belong. But maybe, like that castle, my strength lies in existing between worlds, shaped and steadied by all of them at once.
